Roger Ebert: The Essential Man

There are three main reasons I choose to write these reviews. First, I have countless friends and family members who asked that I start writing down my observations about film so that they could keep up with what I was watching. Second, I have an absolutely incredible girlfriend, who supports and encourages me to write, and is my most avid reader; without her support, I don't know if I would keep writing. And lastly, I do it because ever since I was little, I have been entranced by the cinematic writing, insight, and accomplishments of one man: Roger Ebert. There are few people who have done as much for the relay of cinematic news, or have the same level of credibility as Roger Ebert. Earlier this month, Esquire released a tragically beautiful, and incredibly detailed piece on the everyday life of Ebert since he lost his bottom jaw to cancer, along with his ability to speak and eat. There is a reason I titled this blog, "An Attempt At Ebert," and this article gives an intimate look at why. If you love movies, you owe it to yourself to read this piece.

  1. Hi Kyle! The best waiter ever!!
First I have to thank you for posting this article on Roger Ebert. It was beautiful. I had no idea what a wonderful man he is.
Also, I am thrilled to read your reviews and find that I agree with your opinions! The boys and I will be checking out your reviews often! I love movies but am picky about what I go see. I will check to see if you liked it first!
    Keep up the good work!

  2. First of all I have to say that you are an excellent writer. I have just read all of your reviews and you are spot on--especially all your reviews on the Best Picture Oscar Nominees. Second, I love the quote you have at the top of the page by one of the all-time great directors, [the Brilliant] Stanley Kubrick. And I will be sure to look up more about Roger Ebert, as he sounds rather facinating. And last, keep on writing! You really know how to get your point across without being in the least bit boring so keep it up!!
